Forget Paris. You’ve been there and done that – it’s time for something different. Let the fantasy of Gaudi and the allure of the Barcelona beaches woo you into a dizzy haze of romance. Just imagine it – you and your loved one spending the weekend in an holiday apartment in Barcelona – sipping champagne, walking hand in hand down the vibrant city streets and laying back in each others arms to enjoy a sunset or two on the beach… Bliss.
Besides the usual suspects of exploring architecture and lazing on the beautiful beaches – there are of course hundreds of things to keep you occupied and starry eyed whilst in Barcelona for Valentine’s day – these are just a few of our favourites.
yourselves in a labyrinth
Bring our your inner David Bowie and take your loved one to the neoclassical Horta Labyrinth Park. The park is of course home to a rather beautiful maze – and in the middle, should you find your way, is a statue of Eros – the God of love. There are also two large pavilions – with statues of Danaë and Ariadne and at the garden’s highest point – a statue of Dionysus – the God of wine. This part of the park dates back to the 1700’s, though there is also a second park known as the Romantic Garden which dates back to the 1800’s and is home to thousands of colourful flowers, a canal and a waterfall as well plenty of large trees and scenic benches.
A Kiss at 3,000 metres?
Barcelona is somewhat surrounded by mountains – and the best way to see them and the city from above is by talking a hot air balloon ride – and could there possibly be a better time than on Valentine’s day? The views, at some 3,000 metres high in the sky, are simply exhilarating and both you and your loved one will have your breath taken away. Remember to steal a kiss at 3,000 metres….
Take a spa day
The city is full of spas, from the Zen Zone Spa that sits some 300 metres above the city to the Discovery Spa – conveniently located in the city centre and Valentine’s day is the perfect time to relax, recharge and enjoy a day of indulgence – together.
A Romantic Dinner Date
There are many many options for a romantic dinner in Barcelona. One of our favourites is the darkly lit and endlessly romantic El Pla in the narrow streets of the Barri Gòtic or for something a little more rustic you could try the Mediterranean cuisine of A Contraluz which is set in a beautiful green garden in Sarrià-Sant Gervasi. Or perhaps if you’re renting a holiday apartment in Barcelona then why not plan your own – with a little candlelight and romantic music to set the mood…?
Share A little Magic?
The lights and music show in Montjuïc’s Magic Fountain has been wooing audiences around the Plaça de Carles Buïgas, since the 1920’s. It is a beautiful display, and the perfect prelude for a romantic evening in the city. In-fact it’s a popular spot for marriage proposals – so watch out for men and women down on one knee.and who knows perhaps the heat of the moment might bring a proposal your way? It doesn’t run continuously – but shows at 19:00, 19:30, 20:00 and 20:30 hours – so perhaps take a stroll before heading out for your Valentine’s dinner.
Enjoy the view
