Let´s skate! After a very successful year, the ice rink in Plaza Catalunya is back and will, once again,  be one of the main attraction during the Christmas festivities.The rink is the biggest outdoor skating rink in Europe with 1200 m2 of skating space. Approximately 90,000 visitors went skating last year and there’s room for 350 skaters at the same time. Prices of skate location vary from 7 to 9 euros. Cirque du Soleil arrives in Barcelona

Always in quest for harmony between human and nature, Cirque du Soleil presents DRALION, its new show, opening in Barcelona on 18th of December 2013. The show´s name comes from the dragon and the lion, representing the East and the West. Man and nature are blended ,; each element are presented by colours. The result is a captivating show, a display of acrobatics and colours, and will stay in everyone´s memory until the next show. Fira de Sant Llúcia

Christmas is approaching and there is still time to visit the Christmas markets around the city of Barcelona. Probably the most well-known is the Sant Lucia´s Fair, in front of the Cathedral. You can find Christmas trees, mistletoe, decorations and a wide range of hand-made crafts: jewelery, toys and nativity scene figurines. You can also discover the local food specialties. It is particularly nice to wander around in the evening, with all the lights on and the illuminated Cathedral. Get into the Christmas feeling ! You have until the 23rd of December.

Film & Cook – Film and Gastronomy Festival in Barcelona and Madrid

The third edition of Film & Cook will take place in two cities, Madrid and Barcelona. In Barcelona, the festival will be hosted in the city center, in the Aribau Club movie theater, from November 21 to 24.

Film & Cook 2013 reveals the presence of some of the foremost personalities in the national cooking world – Albert Adria, Quique Dacosta, Ramon Freixa, Angel Leon, Andoni Luis Aduriz and David Muñoz, among others, will participate in the Chefs sections.

The goal of the Film & Cook festival is to participate the audience. Public with purchased ticket will have access to a free tasting and will have opportunity to taste some of the most mythical cocktails in cinema history.

Another year has passed and as usually at the end of it, CCCB brings us World Press Photo Exhibition.  Founded in 1955, with its office in Amsterdam, World Press Photo is run as an independent, non-profit organization. Is committed to supporting and advancing high standards in photojournalism and documentary photography worldwide. It’s aim is to generate wide public interest in and appreciation for the work of photographers and for the free exchange of information. Every year this pictures reminds us the reality, tell many stories about the passed events and above all remember us to be aware of the world we all take it’s small part in.

Cinema Lliure a la Platja Barcelona – Open air movie festival on the beach

More for movies lovers, especially for those who enjoy watching movies open air. The second edition of this festival is held every Thursday from July 25 to August 29 at the San Sebastian’s beach in Barcelona. The entrance is free and everyone is welcome to come to watch quality movie and breathe the sun breeze. The quality program includes each night a short movie + a movie,  some of them are Nowhere Boy, Another Earth or Pa Negre. Cinema Lliure a la Platja starts at 21:30, but is better to arrive by 21:00 to secure good places. You can check the whole program here.

On the 15th of August starts probably the most popular feast in Barcelona. Fiestas de Gracia are well know among the locals and every year becoming more and more popular among the tourists. The magic of this 1 week street festival is not just the music and dancing all night long, but the beautifully decorated streets. Actually it’s the neighbors who take care of the decoration every year and even compete between each other. These dates the streets are being dressed to many colors and decorated from recycled materials. Before the beginning of the feast, the winners are announced. It’s recommendable to visit the festival during night when all the lights are on and the decoration looks much more nicer.

This year it’s the 197th edition and everybody is welcome to celebrates  to the Gracia Streets. The neighbors ask you in return to respect the neighborhood and the decorations.

Pasolini Roma in CCCB Barcelona

The exhibition Pasolini Roma is a project shared by the CCCB, the Cinémathèque française in Paris, the Azienda Palaexpo-Palaexpo delle Esposizioni in Rome and the Martin-Gropius-Bau in Berlin. Pasolini Roma is a project financed by the Europoean Commission to represent topical nature of Pasolini’s work and the project itself.

Pasolini was a poet, journalist, playwright, intellectual and film director. He generated heated public discussion with controversial analyses of public affairs with his political views.

The exposition is divided into six chronological sections that correspond to six phases in the life and creation of Pasolini. It opens with his arrival in Rome in 1950 and closes on 2nd of November 1975, when his lifeless body was found near Ostia.

Open Air Movie festivals in Barcelona

Finally the real hot summer came. How best do you imagine to spend hot evenings with your friends outdoors having picnic, meanwhile watching a good movie. The options in the months of July and August are two.

Sala Montjuic brings already 11th edition of this popular movie festival with concerts and of course picnic. The selection of the movies is generally very good, presenting both national and international pictures, always in original version with subtitles. Yet another beautiful open air cinema comes to Sant Joan de Deu gardens in L’illa Diagonal from the 5th of July till the 2nd of August. This year Illa Open air movie celebrates its 20 anniversary and has decided to show 5 big movies from the year it was born, 1993. The movies are shown of Thursday except the last one, on Sunday. Entrance fee 2 €.

This weekend rocks, Cruïlla 2013 is here

Cruïlla festival will take place this weekend at Forum in Barcelona. It’s already the 8th edition and the festival is gaining it’s popularity every year. This 2 day festival is very accessible and attractive to everybody because of it’s line up and reasonable price. When they launched selling the tickets the 2 day pass cost 28 €. If you haven’t bought your tickets yet, it will cost you 65 € for both days or 40 € just one day. Still very fair price compared to other festivals, specially with this line up: Friday with Suede, Snoop Dogg, Cat Power and Rufus Wainwright. Saturday with Morcheeba, Fermin Muguruza Kontrakan, Bregovic Wedding & Funeral Orchestra and new upcoming star Maia Vidal.

The Show is starting soon. Grec festival is back.

Grec 2013 is here and brings many great shows along. Theatre, Dance, Music, Circus and much more. On the 30th of June starts with great celebration for everybody, but opens its stages on the 1st of July 2013. The opening show is from an Australian company “Circa”, called “Opus”. Music will have it’s prime role, check some spectaculars concerts on the open air. Flamenco has it’s representatives, such as Diego el Cigala, Kiko Veneno. More great jazz and tango shows. Perfect plan for any Sunday Afternoon – Piknic Electronik

Truly the great plan for any Sunday afternoon is Piknic Electronik. The event takes place every Sunday afternoon in Montjuic, in the Joan Brossa gardens. Fantastic for groups of friends or families, this Sunday will be even better, San Juan Edition. No firecrackers are allowed in the Piknic, but sincerely Barcelona beaches are not fun anymore to spend a night of San Joan.

BCN Design Week 2013

The annual Design Week in Barcelona is back. Since 2006 this platform gives opportunity to exchange knowledge and experience around the world of design and attracts companies and internationally renowned speakers. Under the slogan Design Vision 2050, and coinciding with the 40th anniversary of BCD, BCN Design week expand its reach opening up to  the city, and to find answers to the challenges we will face in the coming decades through design.

Among the topics to be discussed  are to give opportunity to public to interact, network and learn about the potential of design, innovation and creativity as a driver for change in several areas of society: health, habitat, eco-design or technology.

Fira Modernista in Eixample 2013

This 3 day street fair take it’s place for the 9th consecutive year in Eixample and promise lots of fun for families and kids. The fair features a broad range of activities to highlighting  the Modernista (Catalan Art Nouveau) movement. With over 80 stalls and many activities including shows, exhibitions, puppet shows workshops and much more.

The best for sure is just to walk around in the streets full of people dressed like people used to over 100 years ago, when Modernism movement was at its peak.

This weekend is about action and adrenaline, X Games Barcelona 2013 started

This weekend Barcelona is a place to be for those who enjoy seeing some action. X Games is considered the most important extreme sports event in the world and Barcelona was chosen as host city for the years 2013, 2014 and 2015. The Summer Xgames consist of four action sports: BMX, Skateboarding, RallyCross car and Moto X.

La Nit Dels Museus, Barcelona

La Nit Dels Museus is the night when more than 50 museums in Barcelona open their doors at night, totally gratis. This great experience show you the other side and totally different atmosphere in museums.

The Night of Museums is an initiative promoted by the Council of Europe in which participates more than three thousand museums in forty different countries. This year coincides with International Museum Day, a day that brings together more than thirty thousand centers worldwide with the goal of sensitizing the public about the role of museums in the constant transforming society.

Essential 2013 summer festivals in Spain

Barcelona’s festivals are getting bigger and more attractive every year. Primavera Sound and Sonar are the must and trendy place to be, but there are more festivals that deserve it’s merit. The line up for all this year is amazing and it will be hard to choose. Lets make a tour from north to the south of Spain.

Bilbao it’s the first stop and it’s great one. BBK Live is maybe not so heavy comparing with the previous years, the biggest stars are Depeche Mode, Editors, King of Leon, Mark Lanegan Band, Klaxons, Green Day, Fatboy Slim and Hives. The attendance in this festival is growing rapidly every year and the organizers will get prepared this year by extending the camping area. Passing through Barcelona, this city is hosting Cruilla Bcn and clearly this festival is getting better and better every year. On July 5 and 6, Forum Barcelona is a must. The Line up has just been revealed and it will be worth it. The confirmed artist so far are  Cat Power, Suede, Rufus Wainwright, Goran Bregovic, Morcheeba, Fermin Muguruza, Billy Bragg and Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue. Castellon is hosting Arenal Sound at the beginning of August and beside of the great line up, this festival is basically on the beach, with a possibility of two campings to choose from, promises lots of fun. Fantasy world of Méliès in Caixa Forum Barcelona

If you need a little break from the city rush and rest your mind for a while Caixa Forum offers couple of expositions that will leaves you with smile in your face.

The highlight is Georges Méliès and his fantasy world. Méliès was first wizard of the cinema, with huge imagination, humor and playing with special effects. When the first cameras where born, Mr. Méliès was making movies taking in account close ups and therefore was creating illusion optic effects and some gorgeous fantasy scenes. Apart from seeing his movies, the visitants can admire some original costumes from the famous Le Voyage Dans La Lune and first movie cameras. This is a must to go exposition, not only for movie lovers.

Another interesting exposition talking about wishes and thoughts is called Qué pensar. Qué desear. Qué hacer. Colorful Holi One Festival is this Sunday celebrated in Barcelona

This colorful festival with its slogan “We are all one” arrives this weekend to Barcelona. Holi One takes place in Rambla de Carmel de Barcelona on Sunday, the 14th of April for third consecutive year. This is free activity and it promises lots of fun. This day wear rather older, white clothes and if you wear contact lenses, goggles or any eye protection is recommended. Beside of the approaching Indian culture when dancing to traditional Indian themes, the highlight of this event is when the colored powders are going to be delivered among the participants.

Be there on Sunday prepared for some fun. Holi One starts from 11 and finishes around 15 o’clock.

This festival has many purposes, foremost it celebrates the beginning of the new season, spring, it also has religious purpose among others.

MECAL, Animation and Short Movies Festival, Barcelona

MECAL is here and that means the summer will be here soon too. The first edition of this excellent short movies festival started this week, in various cinemas of Barcelona. Later in the summer this festival has it’s second edition and take it’s place in Poble Español at open air. Poble Español is more attractive for it’s location, but the indoor edition is more complete.

Check the topics for this year edition among the classics, such as International, Animation and Dance: Aki Kaurismaki, London Calling, Tim Burton Tribute, Specials about Sex, Teenagers and Terror. International Polo Tournament Barcelona October 2012

Sopar Amb Les Estrelles is an annual event that takes place every night of the summer (till the end of September 2012) at the Fabra Observatory where you can watch the stars while you enjoy delicious food. This dinner is obviously focused on Gastronomy but also on Science and Astronomy because there will be a conference with scientists and a visit of the Observatory.

PERALADA CASTLE Festival 2012
